Richard Greer (Bphed, Bsc) Founder / Performance Coach
While studying towards at Bachelor of Phys Ed, and Bachelor of Science, Richard made the most of his study time and competed in many multi-sport events. He has had top placings in the Coast to Coast (2nd- 2 day individual, 4th Longest Day & winner of teams), so his race experience along with knowledge of physiology and exercise prescription makes him an expert coach.
When Richard returned to NZ after his OE in 2006, he found there was a need for a top quality coaching service that is able to work with athletes of all abilities- Complete Performance was born. Complete Performance will aim to service this need in Christchurch and New Zealand to allow people to receive the same services (such as Sport Psych skills training and Sport Science) that an elite athlete would need to complete on the world stage. Therefore with this support and the correct training that is matched to your needs and fitness levels, you will be able to achieve your “Complete Performance”.

Rosie Shakespeare (BNsg, CpPT)
Performance Coach
Rosie is our specialist kayak coach, who also coaches athletes competing in other events such as the Coast to Coast, and road cycling and mountain bike races.
"I have been nursing since 1999 and am passionate about health. in 2009 I also decided to start studying so I could begin to bring together all my passions: sport, coaching others and health. I finished the course in November 09 and it gave me a greater understanding and structure to my past 10years in the multisport and kayaking arena and more knowledge to help you achieve your goals! I see this as only the beginnings of my study and can’t wait to achieve more in this area, while helping others achieve their dreams also!
I have had the pleasure of being on Board with Richard and the team at complete performance for nearly two years now with Kayak specific technique work and since September 2009 in a coaching role. I only hope to expand on this further with working with the team and can’t wait to get involved with helping people and playing a small part in them achieving their goals and dreams and having fun along the way".

Nutritionist and Personal Trainer
Becky is a qualified Nutritionist with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Food Service Management from Otago University, and also has a Certificate in Personal Training. She aims to bridge the gap between exercise and nutrition.
Nutrition is the cornerstone of performance and health. So often people limit their physical potential by putting huge efforts into training and competition, but disregard the powerful influence nutrition has on the journey and outcome. I believe in eating and moving smarter to perform better. Rather than food restriction, I believe in balance. A holistic approach to a healthy active life is the key.
My additional enducation as a personal trainer has allowed be to better understand how the body moves, exercise methods, and training techniques to be a more effective and practical nutritionist and exercise consultant. I aim to assist people to be as strong and conditioned as possible so they can get the most from their sport-specific training and to avoid injury in the process. Developing a base strength is the foundation of any successful athlete!
I like to give anything athletic a go as long as I am having fun and achieving personal results. I am a keen road cyclist, having participated in Lake Taupo road cycling Challenge, Le Race (twice), Goldrush multisport event, and local Duathalons. I enjoy experimenting with cooking and recipe modification specifically for sports nutrition as well as general health.
I am passionate about getting you feeling and moving at your best, preventing injury and sickness, and seeing you achieve optimum results in your daily life as well as with your sport through effective nutrition and training support.
I look forward to working with you to make long-term changes that improve your nutrition habits and health as well as optimise your training through individualised solutions specific to your needs and lifestyle.

Jo Knight (BPhed, BA)
Performance Coach
One of Jo's coaching focuses is Triathlon/ironman athletes, though with a broad background in multisport, she has the knowledge to accommodate any athlete of any ability.
"Returning from living and studying in the US where i had made the most of kayaking and mountain bike guiding jobs, I was talked into running the Kepler Challenge. This in turn led to an invitation to join a team for the 2003 Southern Traverse (5 day course). In preparation for the Traverse we competed in many events- Arrow 24 hr races, 24 hour rogaines, Gold Rush, Cyclic Saga, and some 12 hour mountain bike events. The University of Otago used our team as part of a study on muscles changes, heart rates and nutrition in endurance exercise. The Southern Traverse really was my ultimate adventure race. After the Traverse I took on the Motutapu Icebreaker Marathon, the Kaweka Challenge and the National Mountain bike series (recreational category)". In 2011 I won the Physiomed duathlon series for my agegroup, then in October Nicky (CP coach) and I managed to get on the podium at the 6hr mountain bike race at Mcleans forest.
Now that I have a young family, I appreciate the times I get out for a run or ride more than ever before! I really enjoying my coaching work, and get my multi-sport fix through training my athletes. I am a Tri NZ accredited coach and also a Technical Official for them. I love sharing my knowledge of exercise prescription and racing experiences with other athletes and helping them to achieve their ‘Complete Performance’".

Karen Muller (Dip Spt)
Performance Coach
Karen our Complete Performance Specialist Running Coach, and we are fortunate her talents extend to other areas such as multisport and orienteering.
"My background includes environmental science and testing of software, which gives me a strong analytical and organized approach to the way in which I design training programs and coach running technique. Running Technique is one of my specialities and I work closely with many of the local physiotherapists, podiatrists and massage therapists helping their clients to stay injury free. A good running technique will help to reduce the chance of injury, enable you to run faster for longer and make running even more enjoyable!
I love to help people achieve their sporting goals whether it is to complete their first 5km fun run or a personal best for a multi day adventure race. I believe that training must be fun, specific to the persons needs, realistic and specific to the event. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with training simulations for the huge variety of events that are out there.
Some of my successes include; representing Canterbury in the National cross country champs, being awarded the Govenors Bay to Lyttleton E.M McCallum cup for fastest veteran woman, placing first at the Hanmer 10km and 4th in the Motatapu off road marathon. In multisport I placed 1st in my age group at the 2010 Coast to Coast Longest Day World Championship, Frostbuster and Teva Multisport events.
I have experienced many events in the South Island and love to take on a new race challenge each year. I am a member of Sumner Running and Multisport Club, Arawa Canoe Club, Plains and Peninsula Orienteers and the White Water Canoe Club.

Debbie Johnson (PhD, BSc, CpPT)
Performance Coach
Debbie enjoys coaching a broad range of athletes from beginner to elite.
Debbie's background is in medical research, so she understands the human body well. She has completed a certificate in Personal Training at the Southern Institute of Technology and has been working as a coach with Complete Performance for 2 years. During that time she has coached people for many different types of events including triathlons, Coast to Coast, Ironman, Le race, Spring Challenge, and both full and half marathons.
Debbie is a mother to Abigail (10) and Nicholas (8), and married to Dean. They share their passion for multi-sport and balance their training and racing with busy work schedules.
"One very important thing I’ve learnt from my coaching is that everyone is completely different and one training style or program does not suit all. Working with an athlete is a very personal experience and I try to find methods of training that are productive, motivating and enjoyable for them as an individual”.
“As a busy working mother who still loves to compete reularly in events I understand very well the need for a good training programme to fit with all the other aspects of an athlete’s life. I need to make the most of any training time I get. I aim to train efficiently, and to have a focus for every session, so that I get the best results I can with limited time available. Many of the athletes I coach are very busy people too, who appreciate an effective training programme that doesn’t involve doing huge training hours”.

Vanessa Crean
Cycle Team Coach
After having children I joined a group of friends who were competing in starter triathlons. This led to some 5 & 10 km runs, a standard distance tri in a team, and finally a half marathon. While I enjoyed the combination of disciplines, I found it hard to balance work, children and sport so started spending more time cycling. Living in Wellington this led to races around the Wairarapa, Kapiti Coast. Graperide and the Round Taupo Cycle Challenge. I started Taupo doing the first 80km, but realised this wasn't enough and I wanted to complete the whole race. I have now completed Taupo twice with my best time 5 hours 56 minutes.
Around the same time, having always enjoyed sport as a hobby, I decided to take a change in career. I studied Recreation Management and Sport, and Exercise Science in 2006/2007. I then started Personal Training at Les Mills Extreme in Wellington working with clients with goals of weight loss and toning, running, cycling, and general fitness. While at Les Mills I was a trainer for a Cycle Squad called Gearshifters which ran group trainings for the Wattyl Round Taupo Cycle Classic and Graperide. At the same time I worked with individuals and groups in my local community.
On moving to Christchurch last year I was introduced to Richard at Complete Performance. Combining my family, part time work, and cycle training with CP allows me to balance all the elements of my life. My goal this year is to complete Le Race. Watch this space!
