Every night on the sports news you will hear about how an athlete was psyched up to perform, fully focused on the task at hand, stayed in the moment. But you will also hear stories about how athletes let pre-race nerves get the better of them, choked when the pressure was on, let their concentration slip at a vital moment or lacked confidence to have a go when it really mattered! Can you relate to any of these??
Performance psychology is an aspect of performance that most people would say is integral to them performing at their best. But very few actually know where to access assistance or how to use the tools of self talk, imagery, relaxation techniques, goal setting, pre performance routines etc to improve their concentration, confidence, commitment or control of anxiety.
