Tamsin Chittock As an endurance athlete you will pick up the odd injury from time to time, this might be the result of falling off your bike or the result of incorrect technique or posture.  Physiotherapy plays a vital role to ensure that your problem gets diagnosed correctly and the correct rehabilitation and strengthening plan is put in place to get you back out training and racing to your potential.

Karen McLeod

Karen McLeod

“My interest in Massage Therapy stems from my background as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.  I graduated from the Christchurch College of Natural Medicine in 2003 with a Diploma in Massage Therapy. As a result of my desire to deepen my knowledge, I have gained additional qualifications such as a Certificate in Advanced Sports Massage,  Certificate in Fitness Management (Otago), Myofascial Release and recently an Advanced Certificate in Neuromuscular Therapy (American version). I am one of the first graduates in the southern hemisphere to gain this world wide qualification.

As an Academy of Sport Provider and a Remedial Massage Therapist (Massage New Zealand) I have had the privilege of massaging elite athletes such as an Olympic tri-athletes, British, Australian and New Zealand women cricketers, members of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey team, Tactix netballers, British rugby and rugby league players, The All Blacks and athletes from many other sports.   In 2007 I was the massage therapist in the medical team for the Australasian PGA golf tournament held at Clearwater.  For the last 4 years I have organised therapists for Le Race cycle event and co-coordinated massage for the Speights Coast to Coast Event.

Many of my clients are ordinary, everyday people from all walks of life who have realized that massage therapy can help muscle aches and pains whether from postural imbalances, repetitive work, or exercise. The weekend warriors know that regular massage can aid recovery and prevent injury.

Bruce Baxter

President of Podiatry New Zealand, Director of Podiatrymed and approved Sports Academy Provider.

I have 25 yrs of clinical experience mostly in multidisciplinary environments. I have raced for New Zealand as a runner and elite tri-athlete. I have a special interest in running and cycling injuries particularly relating to movement posture. I cover all areas of podiatry with addition of video gait analysis and postural retraining and performance enhancement.

I have treated 10s of thousands of athletes and am constantly in awe of the human body’s ability to adapt-good and bad and quite frankly love my job.

When not training or working you will find me eating good, food tasting wine, listening to music or gardening-even all together.
Cheers, BB.

P.s. I don’t just treat athletes!

Nick Haley

Nick Haley

Nick is a Podiatrist with a wealth of experience in treating athletes, from Olympians through to the weekend warrior. Along with completing his Podiatry degree in 1997 Nick has completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine in 2000 and is a preferred provider for the New Zealand Academy of Sport. After playing representative rugby in his early years he has developed a keen interest in running, having completed many half marathons and his first marathon in 2010 the “Motutapu”.

” Running is one of those things we just do, we have all done it since we were kids and we don’t even think about it. But once you see yourself running on our computerised gait analysis tool you can see where you can improve. Not only do we look at your feet but your entire posture and technique, then we can take the team approach with your coach/trainer/physiotherapist to get you on the right track again.  If needed we can make small technique adjustments through to possibly changing your footwear or even orthotic therapy. It is not often a quick fix but a sustained long term team approach to optimal function”

Nick’s business is a supporter of local running events, sponsoring the Flag Pole run up and the Avalanche Peak Challenge over the past few years.

Sport Science Centre Sport science can take the guess work out of your training.  The most useful test that our athletes complete is a lactate test.

Anthony Chapman

Anthony Chapman

Anthony Chapman leads the Bike Setups at ActiveHealth QEII using his knowledge as a Physiotherapist combined with his experience as a New Zealand representative cyclist on the road and track.  Anthony continues to compete and has numerous national titles to his name.  He has a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy where he studied back motion in cyclists and is the BikeNZ lead provider for Bike Setups

Stress and strain imposed on the body by an improper bike fit is the leading cause of cycling injuries.  Sometimes the best bike setup can still lead to problems if your body is tight or weak or unstable and we can assess any need for stretches or exercises to keep you on your bike and training for your next event.

Pain is not the only reason for looking at bike setup and we offer the same multi-disciplinary assessment for performance optimisation for your cycling discipline.

If you are suffering from pain or wish to maximise your performance, we urge you to seek the proper treatment from a qualified sports medicine specialist.

Dan Abel

FitandAbel specialises in open water swimming – we truly believe swimming is one of the best forms of exercise available. We can help you with adult learn to swim, open water swimming, competitive triathlon and open water or pool swimming aspirations.

Fit&Abel has both pool and open water swim locations

The pool is normally where swimmers are ‘born’. A pool provides a safe environment to get comfortable in the water, learn swim technique and improve fitness. Once swim technique and fitness have been achieved the options become plentiful. If you are of a competitive nature then competitive swimming, triathlons or an ironman event may be your calling. If you enjoy the fitness of swimming but are also drawn to the relaxing and ‘zen like state’ that can be achieved with longer swims or you just enjoy swimming in a natural environment then open water swimming might be the answer. Fit&Abel can tailor coaching and swim experiences to suit your requirements. It’s what we love doing and it’s what we’re good at. Whatever your level of swim ability Fit&Abel can help you on the journey.

Amy Naylor

I have been around swimming pools my entire life, and it seemed a natural progression to eventually swim and compete as a member of the Aqua Gym National Squad.
As an athlete I experienced stroke analysis in the flume in Dunedin and was privileged to work with Bill Boomer and Milton Nelms, Bio Mechanic Specialists and Consultants to the USA Olympic Swim Team.  This of course helped with my swimming, but also sparked a real interest in how we swim better, faster and with less injury. Managing to fit in training, competing and study, I graduated from University of Canterbury with a Business Degree in 2005.

After University I spent some time indulging my love of travel with trips to Europe and USA, before becoming involved in programming and coaching swimming at Aqua Gym.  I specialize in private swim technique sessions for both adults and children.

One of the most rewarding things in Swim Coaching is seeing the delight on someone’s face when they understand a new drill and feel the improvement in their swimming.  To see all the hard work finally pay off is fantastic for both swimmer and coach.

I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

Topsport Kayaking Topsport will teach you how to paddle on moving water to a grade II level. This means that you will be able to approach you river trips with confidence too.
