Robyn Twemlow

Robyn Twemlow

“Six years ago as a new mum I developed severe postnatal depression & was hospitalised for treatment. Three years later following the birth of my second daughter I developed a bipolar disorder.  The combination of medication and depression became an excuse to eat what I liked and not bother to exercise. In September last year I weighed 127.4kgs.

In August 2009 I decided it was time to take back control of my life and stop making excuses.

I am riding the Girls on Bikes event as a fundraiser for Mothers Matter, a support network for women dealing with postnatal depression, and likewise riding Around Brunner as a fundraiser for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. This is my way of raising awareness of mental illness and my way of thanking those people who have helped me along the way.”

Follow Andy and Shane’s build up to Challenge Wanaka.

“Christchurch Westpac Rescue Paramedics Shane Lynch and Andy Frankenschmidt are both keen athletes and were looking for a project that combined their sporting and professional ambitions as well as the chance to raise awareness and funds for the Rescue Chopper along the way!  Their training programme, and the event itself, is a real challenge – just like the annual funding of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter! You can follow Shane and Andy’s progress right here with news, updates and fundraising opportunities. Thanks for your support.”

Follow Ruth’s build up to the 2010 Coast to coast and doing it for the first time as an individual.

“It always surprises me when I mention I am training for Coast to Coast peoples reactions – ‘that’s incredible’ ’so brave’ ‘crazy’…but most of all ‘I could never do that’. So I am here to say – ‘um yeah actually you can’….seriously. Alas I have no god gifted athletic talents or abilities – my driving force has solely to be the best I can and keep challenging my own limits.”
