Sue Curtin – CP Cruisers – Prebbleton 45km
Posted on June 30, 2009
I was there….I joined the ‘G’ graders on Sunday; we all became ‘F’ graders as there were only 11 of us in total.
Mixed bunch of guys & gals (35-75 years). Had a great time- small bunch really got into the bunch riding thing.. constantly moving forward & pushing every one along.
Finished 6th; one of the other ladies pipped me at the post! Yes the 1km sprint is a bit of a push….
Our times were around the 1hr,24min so a tad slower the the ‘A’ graders who blasted back in in 1hr,02min -I think.
I plan to be there next sunday.

Tim Jones – CP Race team – Prebbleton 45km
Posted on June 30, 2009
Well a great day for racing despite the cold start…
Mark, Graeme and I turned out for C grade and had a pretty good run.
The pace on the way out was around the 37kmh mark but was slightly marred by the presence of some juniors who were lacking in peloton riding technique and kept surging the off the front breaking up the pace line and meaning a lot of reorganising and surging.
The turn around came quickly and all 3 of us were at the front of the pack. A quick chat amongst the three of us and we all agreed to launch an individual attack to try and split the field a bit – It worked to a degree with a couple of the slower riders dropping off the back, but the main group always came back keeping a solid pace around the 40kmh mark.
A couple more attacks from us then we hit the round about and the left turn to home and the first attack from a non – CP rider came on which was easily reeled in.
Graeme was feeling fresh and his next attack with about 4 km to go was aimed to be a decisive one and he showed great power off the front while Mark and I sat on the front of the group, blocking the chase.
With about 2k to go though the group realised the deal and a few riders came in front and drove the chase home and Graeme was caught just before the left turn for the sprint finish.
A few hopefuls went from the turn, but the 1k finish is deceptively long…
The 3 of us tried to work together but the front of the group was split across the road and it was a gaggle of cyclists with very little organisation and it came down to a ragged bunch of 12 or 15 crossing the line within a few seconds – unfortunately no placings for us.
A great day out and the team tactics worked to a degree – with a couple more riders we could certainly have either supported a bigger break or made a more organised lead out for the sprint…
There are only 2 weeks of racing left so lets see what we can do for them!

Kaye Wilson – Wellington 1/2 marathon
Posted on June 30, 2009
Really pleased with my result in Wellington 1:58:18! To be honest, I was a bit doubtful that I would get under 2 hours again as my preparation hadn’t been particularly great and training since the ChCh half had been a bit erratic!

JD Duathlon
Posted on June 29, 2009
Well done to all those athletes that braved the frost on Saturday morning at the JD Duathlon. It was held at Powerbuilt Ruapuna Speedway- this made for a very smooth ride, and no traffic to contend with. The distances are really achievable- 2.4km/16.5km/2.4km. There is one more to be held in the same place on August 30th.

Grease theme Tour de Spin
Posted on June 23, 2009

- Grease team

- Who is the real Sandy?

- Straight from the wardrobe??
There was a little bit of craziness in the air at last week’s Tour de Spin Grease theme night. We had a number of people dressing up for the occasion and pushing the boundaries of what the human body is capable of in a spin class, from high heels duct taped to pedals, rubber hair and fishnets! Well done guys keep having fun.

Christine Wright, 2nd; N-Duro duathlon Rotorua
Posted on June 17, 2009
“The duathlon was a lot of fun. It was all off road in the Whakarewarewa forest. I had to do a 4.5km run, 20km mountain bike and 4.5km run to finish. The field was pretty small as it was the first year they had run the duathlon (the main events were a 40km mtn bike and a 20km mtn bike). I was really pleased with how I went though and loved the mountain bike course. The riding up there is great. I finished up 2nd woman overall and 1st open woman (darned vets!).” Awesome effort Christine!
