Ruptured Achilles halts progress to the Alpine Epic

Posted on December 19, 2008

I received a call last week from Vicky Robertson who was training for the Alpine Epic a four day mountain bike stage race.  Vicky was just starting to feel really good on her bike and had a number of build up races for the summer planned, however progress was stopped when she ruptured her Achilles whilst playing Hockey.  We really enjoyed working with you Vicky and wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to more adventures in the future…

“I completed the race as an individual! The biggest ever effort for me so I am stoked, really happy with my run.  In terms of the context that I went into the event, I came away excited and thinking that it was a pretty complete performance”

Mike Robins – Kepler Challenge, Te Anau

Posted on December 8, 2008

I made it!

It took me 8hrs 34mins.
I think I did a great job of managing my body. I drank over 7 litres during the race and ate plenty too. I was aware that cramp was close but it never got hold of me.

I walked all the uphill bits but my legs stayed good enough to run any flat or downhill bit. At the end of the race I felt like I could have done another 10k’s if I had to.

I think it was a great intro to the race and the good thing is that already I’m thinking of next year. Running is a lot more fun when you run to an achievable plan. And with what I know now I think it would be easy to shave up to an hour off my time.

Well, it was all going pretty well until about the 40km mark, at which the body said ‘STOP’.  And stop I did.  Abruptly…. Click here for Andreas’s Race report

Richard Greer – Round Taupo Enduro

Posted on December 4, 2008

Complete Performance hit the road and headed to Taupo to take on the Enduro which meant myself Graeme Allen and Bryan Tarbell lined up for a 1.30am start to complete 2 laps of the lake a total of 320km in one sitting.
Results: Graeme Allen 10.37 (7th) Bryan Tarbell 10.56 (9th) and myself 9.56 (2nd).  Out of 53 starters 46 riders finished.
It was a fantastic event, great weather and a really nice place to ride and a great way to spend a long weekend away with friends and family.  Will I do the two laps again hmmm, I will have to think about this a bit longer…

Wendy Spray – update from the UK

Posted on December 4, 2008

Yesterday I went for my long run.  I mapped out where I was going to go before hand on mapmyrun, had no idea what the roads were going to be like.  Started with a steady hill climb for about half an hour which really warmed me up.  I think it was about minus 1 when I left home.  When I got to the top of the hill the foot path ran out.  The roads were narrow and windy and it was really misty so I stopped to think about what to do.  I didn’t really want to run on the road with such poor visibility.  Then I saw a man come out of his house so I asked him about the footpaths and he directed me down a side road, then off a track, down a river bed……lots of directions which would take me to a place called Lineacre forest.  I’d passed this place on my shorter runs so decided to take his advice.  The track was tiny, muddy, icy, it was quite freaky running off into the countryside through a forest with all this misty haze hoping that I wouldn’t get lost!  It was great C2C training though and I could hear you telling me to keep jumping from side to side.  Managed to find lineacre forest ok, passed a lady walking her dog and chatted to her for a bit getting directions.  Ran around the lakes a couple of times till it was time to head home, found the exit only to realise that it wasn’t the exit I thought it would be and I was now in the middle of the countryside miles away from chesterfield!  Starting running towards where I thought it would be and the lady I got directions from passed in her car and stopped to say hi.  When she realised I was lost she gave me a ride back to town, dropping me off where I knew I could get back home. A very exciting morning!

Wendy is currently in the UK for work and is training for the 2 day coast to coast in February.

Greg Williamson, Tuatara Peninsula Race, Christchurch

Posted on December 3, 2008

Survived the weekend! It was an enjoyable (if small event), great weather.

I didn’t meet my target of 10% better – more like 1%! But I did better my overall time by 7 minutes. I was happy with the result in the end because the conditions were quite different so a comparison with 2007 was problematic.

Overall really pleased with the outcome, and all that I learned along the way. Thanks again for your help and advice.
