A successful Big Day Out

Posted on December 22, 2007

Dick Brunton led the charge of Complete Performance athletes on Saturday when he ran out the winner of the Teva Big Day Out in Methven.  He ran a controlled race coming off the run as the second placed individual and powering on the bike and the paddle to win by four minutes, showing his preparation for the longest day is right on track.  Leighton and Rebekah Greer teamed up in the mixed team section as their first outing together.  Leighton had a solid run sending Rebekah on the cycle where she dug deep to ride with some seasoned open men competitors.  Leighton then paddled the team home in second place.  Grant Page had a very tough day out and learnt a number of tough lessons that saw him pull out after the run. I am sure that he will be better for it when he lines up for the Coast to Coast.  Running as a tandem team Andreas Kacofegitis and Deven Burchett had an enjoyable day out coming in second place in their section. This was a good lead up to the rest of their summer where they will complete the coast to coast individually and the Goldrush as a tandem team.  Team_Thermatech_TEVA.jpgMaybe if they went a bit harder they could have finished first…

Nadine’s Journey

Posted on December 21, 2007

Nadine continued her journey toward Ironman 09 with another huge improvement in the Christmas Cracker Tri that was held in Sumner last weekend.  She beat her time by almost 10 minutes however had to contend with massive blisters on the second lap of the run and as a result found that it was faster to run without her shoes on.  Has she over dosed on hard pills??

To follow her build up to Ironman 09 Nadine has created a blog which will make for very colourful reading no doubt … click here to follow her over the year ahead: http://wiliergurl.blogspot.com/

Athlete hangs up bike…

Posted on December 12, 2007

Graeme Allen (pictured) retired from racing last weekend as he awaits the birth of his first child very soon.   However he probably deserves a rest after backing up from two laps around Lake Taupo the week before to complete the Harbour bays ride and the criterium the following day.  He rode the harbour bays course solo after a mechanical forced him to let his group go.  During the Criterium Graeme was looking strong until a fire engine pulled out in front of the peloton which Graeme bounced off and subsequently put him out of the race.  All the best Desire and Graeme for the new arrival.  Let’s see how long the retirement lasts…

Many athletes in action this weekend

Posted on December 12, 2007

With summer well underway there are a number of athletes stepping out this weekend to test themselves.

Rhonda Bignell is aiming to peak this weekend for her second attempt at the Rotorua 1/2 ironman and with a good winter of training behind her she is aiming to beat last years time (as well as a couple of her close rivals…)

Nadine Voice continues her epic summer with an outing at the Canterbury champs at Corsair bay and is planning on further improving her run split as a result of the increased run training that she has been putting in.

On the multisport scene a number of Complete Performance athletes will be flying the flag at the big day out in Methven.  Grant Page, Andreas Kacofegitis and Leighton Greer are all competing as part of their build up to the 2 day individual Coast to Coast and Dick Brunton is stepping out as part of his training towards the longest day Coast to Coast.

 All the best team

Room to improve after Arrowsmith MTB race

Posted on December 11, 2007

Three complete performance athletes took on the opening round of the South Island Mountain Bike series on an extremely hot day at Mount Arrowsmith in the weekend.  The course was extremely rough in places with a one huge climb early in the race.  Mike who has just had the cast of his broken wrist attacked the course but it was his tyre choice that let him down over the rough terrain, having to stop for five punctures!  Nick is also fired up to redeem himself at the next round in Queenstown with a new found motivation to push himself to the edge to show what he can really do.  After a poor start he opted to help a team mate to the end of the race.  Our third athlete Henry who has just come off a tough time with illness and year 13 exams attacked the climb and unfortunately came off second best, however he was able to consolidate his effort and finish strongly winning the under 23 division.

Podium finish in first cycle race!

Posted on December 5, 2007

If you had told Zac Barker that he and his Dad Graeme would finish on the Podium when competing in the Harbour Bays ride he would have laughed at you, however that is exactly what happened.  Zac rode hard during the first leg (most of which was ridden without the help of a bunch) and handed the baton over to his Dad who attacked the climbs and continued Zacs good work to finish with a bronze medal for the pair.  This capped of a successful weekend for Zac who also won a bike as part of the festival!!

Team win at Contours

Posted on December 5, 2007

Two Complete Performance athletes, Nadine and Anita combined with Esbe van Heerden on Sunday morning to take out the team section of the Contours Triathlon by 20 minutes over their nearest rivals.  Nadine powered through the swim leg to send Anita away on her bike with a lead.  Anita has recently completed round Taupo and with good training base behind her she further extended the teams lead.  Esbe then ran home to claim the team win.  Well done and don’t drink your prize all at once…
